Over the years the number of people from around the world that choose Cuba as a tourist destination has increased. Defending the national identity via diverse but also selective artistic offers becomes a challenge. Future of Cuba’s Tourism Is in Culture

The image that Cuba projects to the world was once again a topic of discussion Thursday at the 7th Congress of the National Association of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) taking place in Havana. The debate was between making a culture for tourism and inserting the visitors into the artistic life of the country.

Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero said the future of Cuban tourism lies in the cultural strength of the nation, which illustrates the importance to take on the challenge to make culture a driving essence and motor of the development of the island’s tourism.

Among the actions towards that end, Marrero noted the decision to dedicate the next International Tourism Fair to the integration of tourism and culture...
